National organization endorses Demetriades because
he will be a strong voice for equality when elected.
Today LGBTQ+ Victory Fund – the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ+ people to public office – endorsed James Demetriades for Mayor in Cromwell, Conn. The endorsement signals Victory Fund’s confidence that Demetriades is well-positioned to win the mayoral race and be a strong voice for equality. Demetriades would be the first out LGBTQ person to be the mayor of Cromwell.

LGBTQ+ people remain severely underrepresented in government nationwide – holding just 0.2% of elected positions despite representing at least 7.2% of the U.S. population, according to LGBTQ+ Victory Institute. As an out LGBTQ+ leader, Demetriades will be an unwavering voice for equality for the town of Cromwell. His priority in office will include executing a strategic plan to grow the Cromwell community to embrace the opportunities and manage the challenges of the 21st century. The main tenets of this plan are modernization, collaboration and sustainable infrastructure.
